Boston Scientific’s Institute for Advancing Science (IAS) in Madrid is a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster collaboration, immersive learning, and client engagement. As part of a broader workplace transformation, the IAS suite integrates seamlessly with the existing agile workspace in the same building, offering a cutting-edge environment for training healthcare professionals on Boston Scientific’s innovative products.



The IAS suite features a range of flexible spaces tailored to various training activities. Its lab rooms can be quickly reconfigured with movable partitions and versatile furniture, supporting both small and large groups. The auditorium, a central feature of the suite, delivers a fully immersive experience with its surrounding LED digital wall and advanced acoustic treatments, enhancing both visual and auditory elements of presentations. Private rooms are designed for live surgery simulations and consultations, with SmartGlass doors that switch between transparent and opaque to ensure privacy while maintaining a modern, open feel.



The design prioritises user engagement with a blend of digital and physical elements. Visitors are greeted by an interactive display showcasing medical devices and holograms of anatomical structures, reinforcing the educational focus of the suite. A custom ceiling installation featuring over 500 LED lights mimicking the Milky Way adds a captivating, dynamic visual experience.



The suite's design incorporates acoustic materials and timber elements, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere while maintaining superior sound management for training sessions. Lighting is based on the WELL Light concept, promoting wellbeing by mimicking natural light conditions.



Sustainability is a key focus of the project, with the IAS achieving LEED Platinum certification and integrating the WELL Building Standard. High-efficiency materials and thoughtful construction practices underscore Boston Scientific’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
