Temple Lung Center Updates in Research and Practice

The digital version of Temple Lung Center’s Fall 2023 Magazine, Updates in Research and Practice, immerses its audience in the latest innovations in lung care from the Temple University Health System. This biannual multi-platform publication targets pulmonologists and primary care physicians across the country with stories featuring the technologies, therapies, clinical trials and research that showcase the team’s capabilities. As the nation’s first entirely multidisciplinary hub for thoracic medicine and surgery, the Temple Lung Center brings together basic science and clinical faculty to advance practice in thoracic surgery, acute and chronic care of pulmonary diseases, clinical and scientific research, and medical education.



For the cover/backdrop, the team commissioned a medical illustration that wraps around the publication’s front and back covers in a colorful depiction of collapsed bronchioles and distention of alveoli characteristic of emphysema. Inside, the faculty-written piece includes six feature articles that demonstrate the discoveries, surgical techniques, and state-of-the–art technologies that set Temple’s care apart. The digital version, designed in Shorthand, interprets the bespoke medical illustration as a backdrop for six modular doorways into stories of discovery and advanced practice. The interactive site uses video and motion graphics to bring the viewer into the lab or the operating room, to highlight an infographic to illustrate a point, or to depict the electrical pathways surrounding the lungs and a beating heart. It also highlights the physician researchers behind the innovations and provides a name and a face to contact for more information. Utilizing Temple Health System’s brand colors and messages, this dynamic, user-friendly site draws viewers in and encourages them to dive deep into Temple’s expertise.
