Rare Diseases: Diagnosis and Treatment of C3G and IG-MPGN

As part of the American Kidney Fund's efforts to fight kidney disease on all fronts, the organization is spreading awareness about rare kidney diseases, which often are difficult to diagnose and sometimes go undetected for years. Two of these rare diseases are IC-MPGN and C3G (previously both called MPGN). In both diseases, an important part of the immune system known as the "complement cascade system" is overactive, which results in the excessive breakdown of a protein. Breakdown products become trapped in the kidney, causing inflammation and damage to the organ. These videos help explain what these diseases are, the differences between the two, how doctors diagnose them and what treatments are available.
